This activity has been designed to address the educational needs of physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, within the specialties of primary care—including internal medicine, family practice, and general practice; geriatrics; obstetrics/gynecology; emergency medicine; neurology; pulmonology; allergy; endocrinology; pediatrics; public health; infectious disease. This activity may be of benefit to other clinicians who care for patients with chronic diseases who may be at high risk for consequences of seasonal influenza.
 
Learning Objectives
Upon proper completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
  • Apply knowledge of current seasonal influenza morbidity and mortality data to effectively inform patients of the risks of infection and the need to prevent infection through annual vaccination.
  • Formulate clinical practice strategies for seasonal influenza vaccination that incorporate evidence-based guidelines and current indications for FDA-approved influenza vaccines.
  • Evaluate the role of antiviral medications in the prevention and treatment of seasonal influenza.
