Target Audience
This activity has been designed to address the educational needs of community and hospital pharmacists. It may also benefit other clinicians involved in the care of patients with influenza.

Statement of Need
Although antiviral agents can reduce the duration and severity of influenza symptoms and prevent complications (particularly in vulnerable patient populations), misconceptions about their indications and efficacy may lead to underuse, even in patients at high risk of influenza-related complications who would benefit most. This educational activity will dispel myths about influenza’s impact, testing, and treatment, including misperceptions about exciting new and emerging therapies.

Learning Objectives
Upon proper completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
• Apply effective strategies of patient and healthcare provider education on antiviral management of influenza.
• Evaluate the latest safety and efficacy data for new and emerging antiviral medications to determine how these may fit into the treatment paradigm.

Agenda
• Introduction
• Dispelling Misperceptions About Influenza Prevention and Testing
• Dispelling Misperceptions About Conventional Antiviral Treatment
• Dispelling Misperceptions About New and Emerging Antiviral Treatment
• Q&A
