Program Description
The nonspecific symptoms and heterogeneous presentations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) make this common condition notoriously difficult to diagnose and treat. Yet without recognition and proper therapy, patients are susceptible to preventable COPD-related exacerbations, hospitalizations, and death. Using a novel, interactive, video-centered, case-based approach, this expert-led live web activity will familiarize family physicians (FPs) with practical, guideline-recommended tools they can use to confidently make a diagnosis of COPD and to select an individualized treatment plan that fosters adherence and meets patients’ needs.

Target Audience
This activity has been designed to address the educational needs of FPs. It may also benefit other healthcare professionals (HCPs) engaged or interested in the care of patients with COPD, including internists, pulmonologists, nurse practitioners (NPs), and PAs.

Learning Objectives
Upon proper completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
• Accurately diagnose patients with COPD based on a thorough evaluation using tests and tools as outlined by current best practice guideline recommendations
• Formulate evidence-based treatment plans for patients with COPD based on symptom severity and exacerbation risk
• Match patients to an appropriate device from among the inhalers and nebulizers available for COPD treatment based on their individual characteristics, including technique needed for proper actuation and use
