DESCRIPTION

Managing serious infections is one of the most critical issues hospitalists face.  This live CME Symposium, delivered by an Infectious Disease (ID) specialist and an ID-focused clinical pharmacist will take a didactic and case-based approach to sharing how they developed a CABP management program within their institutions. This program will bring hospitalists up to date on evidence-based CABP management, JC/CMS Core Measure guidance, and anti-infective treatment options that are aligned with antimicrobial stewardship principles. Armed with this knowledge, hospitalists can provide the best possible treatment and outcomes for patients while preserving the efficacy of available antibiotics for future use.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon proper completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
  • Incorporate risk assessment tools and evidence-based processes of care when managing patients with CABP.
  • Select appropriate empiric therapy for patients with CABP based on current clinical evidence and JC/CMS Antimicrobial Consensus Recommendations.
  • Describe current JC/CMS Core Measures and 30-day readmission penalties for pneumonia.
TARGET AUDIENCE

This initiative has been designed to meet the educational needs of hospitalists and other clinicians who manage patients with infectious diseases—in particular, CABP.
