Program Overview

Stargardt disease (STGD1), the most common inherited macular dystrophy, causes progressive central vision loss (often early in life), placing a tremendous long-term burden on patients and their families. No FDA-approved treatment exists today, but that is poised to change. Several investigational therapies, including oral retinoid-cycle modulators and gene-based approaches, are advancing through the pipeline, raising the stakes for early and accurate detection. Join us live at the American Academy of Ophthalmology or via livestream for an update on diagnostics, genetics, and where the treatment landscape is headed, so you are ready to recognize, test, and counsel patients as this field moves forward.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize clinical and imaging features of STGD1
  • Describe the role of genetic testing in patients with suspected STGD1
  • Discuss mechanisms of action and clinical trial evidence for emerging STGD1 therapies to inform patient counseling
