Target Audience
This activity has been designed to address the educational needs of primary care practitioners, including internal medicine and family physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. It will also be of benefit to community pulmonologists, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals interested in the management of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
 
Learning Objectives
Upon proper completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
  • Explain the signs, symptoms, risk factors, pathophysiology, and appropriate diagnostic assessments of COPD.
  • Describe appropriate maintenance treatment, including the roles of multidisciplinary care and adherence in patients with COPD.
  • Discuss available nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic options in light of current clinical evidence and treatment guidelines.
