Chapter 1 | Choosing the Right Antibiotics for Effective Management of ABSSSI | 27 Minutes |
Chapter 2 | Choosing the Right Antibiotics for Effective Management of CABP | 18 Minutes |
Chapter 3 | Strategies for Ensuring Appropriate Antimicrobial Decision-making | 19 Minutes |
TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of infectious disease specialists, clinical microbiologists, infectious disease researchers, infectious disease clinical pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals who specialize in the management of infectious disease.
STATEMENT OF NEED
Effective management of two common and serious infections–acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI) and community-acquired bacterial pneumonia (CABP)–is becoming particularly challenging in light of ever-increasing antimicrobial resistance among key pathogens, coupled with a limited anti-infective pipeline. Infectious disease specialists must take a leadership role in ensuring selection of the most appropriate agent, older or new, that provides coverage for the most likely causative pathogen while minimizing development of resistance, based on the latest evidence.
This activity is designed to enhance participant awareness about current clinical practice guidelines, performance measures related to treatment of infections, and recently introduced antibiotics in order to help infectious disease specialists facilitate appropriate antibiotic use for ABSSSI and CABP.
EDUCATIONAL ONBECTIVES
Upon proper completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Describe current evidence-based approaches for management of ABSSSIs, including appropriate incorporation of newer antibiotics
- Recognize current evidence-based approaches for management of CABP, including consensus recommendations for appropriate incorporation of newer antibiotics
- Discuss novel strategies for ensuring appropriate antibiotic use and for preserving antibiotic efficacy
